Building a Better Burlington Together

As someone who has called Burlington home for years, I've seen firsthand both the challenges we face and the incredible potential of our community. I'm running for City Council because I believe that by working together, we can create a Burlington that works for everyone – a city where working families can thrive, where our environment is protected, and where every resident feels safe and welcomed.

  • A Home for Everyone

The housing crisis affects us all. I've talked with countless neighbors who are struggling to find affordable homes or watching their children move away because they can't afford to stay. This isn't just a policy issue – it's about keeping our families and communities together.

I'm committed to practical solutions that will make housing more accessible and affordable, including:

    • Supporting mixed-use housing development to create vibrant, inclusive neighborhoods

    • Creating new pathways to homeownership for working families and first-time buyers

    • Strengthening protections for renters and ensuring landlords maintain high-quality housing

    • Taking meaningful action to address homelessness through housing-first approaches

  • Community Safety That Works for Everyone

Public safety in Burlington requires both adequate policing and innovative solutions. Our current staffing challenges strain police response times, while mental health crises and substance use issues demand alternative approaches. We need a balanced strategy that supports our officers while expanding proven programs that address the root causes of safety concerns.

    I will work to:

    • Support recruitment, retention, and rebuilding efforts to ensure adequate police staffing levels

    • Advocate for expanded mental health response teams and crisis services

    • Champion youth programs, substance use prevention, and violence prevention initiatives

    • Support harm reduction and addiction recovery services

    • Rebuild trust between our community and the police department

    • Deepen Burlington's partnership with the state on addressing community safety crisis

  • Public Health and Community Wellbeing

The pandemic showed us how crucial public health is to our community's resilience. I believe we need a comprehensive approach to health that addresses both immediate needs and long-term wellbeing. I will:

    • Advocate for enhanced mental health crisis response resources

    • Work to strengthen partnerships between the city and local healthcare providers

    • Champion food security initiatives, including:

      • Greater support for community gardens

      • Improved food distribution networks

      • Enhanced partnerships with local farmers

    • Support programs that help seniors age in place

    • Advocate for expanded addiction treatment and harm reduction services

  • Leading on Climate Action

Burlington is a national leader in environmental action - from becoming the first city to run on 100% renewable electricity to launching our Net Zero Energy roadmap. But climate change isn't just about goals and targets. It's about building climate resilience by protecting our neighborhoods from increasingly severe storms, ensuring families can afford their heating bills, and preserving the natural environment that makes our city special. Our work on climate must benefit all residents, particularly those most vulnerable to rising costs and climate impacts. I will advocate for:

    • Expanding successful programs like weatherization assistance while ensuring they reach all neighborhoods

    • Supporting policies that help residents transition to clean heating and cooling systems affordably

    • Improving public transit service and making our streets safer for walking and biking

    • Growing our wildways and green infrastructure to build climate resilience

    • Elvolving our emergency preparedness plans for extreme weather events

    • Promoting local food systems and community gardens

  • Making Burlington Accessible to All

Accessibility is fundamentally about dignity and independence. In Burlington, too many of our neighbors face daily barriers - from broken sidewalks to limited transit options - that make it difficult to access jobs, healthcare, and community life. While we've made progress, much work remains to make our city truly accessible for everyone.

    • Improving Burlington's walkability and bike-ability, ensuring residents are safe to navigate the city the way they want to

    • Expanding public transit service to underserved areas

    • Ensuring new developments and updates to our infrastructure meet high standards for accessibility

    • Making city services and information available to all residents

  • Equity and Inclusion at the Core

Growing up in a suburban blue-collar town with bi-racial parents, I deeply understand the real and perceived barriers faced by racially diverse communities. I believe Burlington's diversity is its greatest strength, but we must do more to ensure everyone has a meaningful voice in shaping our future.  As PTO president at Champlain, I’ve witnessed firsthand how these challenges impact our neighbors—in schools, at home, and throughout our community. I’m committed to working toward solutions that create better outcomes for all.

As your city councilor, I will:

    • Collaborate with local organizations to expand support for minority-owned businesses.

    • Partner with workforce development programs to increase access to job training.

    • Advocate for better language access across city services.

    • Support initiatives aimed at closing achievement gaps.

  • Good Governance and Transparency

Trust in government must be earned through action, not words. Burlington residents deserve a city government that's responsive, accessible, and accountable. As your city councilor, I will push for:

    • Better tracking and reporting of city services and spending

    • Regular neighborhood meetings to hear directly from residents

    • Expanded participatory budgeting opportunities

    • More accessible city data and information

    • Greater diversity in city government

    • Improved accessibility for public meetings, including virtual options and language support

Please - get involved!

Change happens when we work together, and I want to hear your voice. My campaign is built on the belief that the best solutions come from the community itself. Here's how you can get involved:

  • Share your ideas and concerns at our weekly community conversations

  • Sign up for our newsletter to stay informed about campaign events and city issues

  • Volunteer with our outreach efforts

  • Host a house party to discuss Burlington's future with your neighbors

Together, we can build a Burlington that truly works for everyone. A city where every resident has the opportunity to thrive, where our diversity is celebrated as our strength, and where we face our challenges head-on with compassion and creativity.
